The Northcote cycleway is now open, extending the North Railway-City path and making cycling between Northcote Road and Tuckers Road safer and more fun.
A big feature is a signalised crossing for cyclists and pedestrians at the rail crossing.
"This is a really busy area and I think the local community will be really pleased with the signalised crossing," says Michael Ferigo, Council Transport Planner.
There are plans to extend the route further to Main North Road near Styx Bridge.
Leaving from central Christchurch, the North Railway-City route goes via Hagley Park through popular Fendalton, Papanui and Northcote. Priority is given to cyclists along the way as sensors in the tarmac activate traffic signals, allowing riders to maintain their momentum.
It's another great asset for a city passionate about cycling!
